The Evangelical Charity Commission exists as a model and resource to enable the entire parish community to put the social teachings of the Church into action. Through educational and formational programs, as well as hands-on opportunities, the Commission empowers the members of the parish to fulfill the Church’s mission of love, justice, freedom, and peace by the community by responding to societal and individual human needs.
Members of our parish, along with other area church congregations, donate food for needy families in our community. Food is distributed at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Volunteers are needed to sort and pack the food.
The Giving Tree has been a long tradition at St. Anne’s. Gifts are provided for needy families in the community, as well as for area Adult Foster Care Homes, the AIDS Ministry programs through the Archdiocese of Detroit and for families being helped through the Chaplains Office of the Oakland County Jail.
The Toy Store is set up in Hardy Hall on a Saturday in December with new toys donated from people in the community. Families who are registered to receive help for Christmas are eligible to “shop” by appointment and select toys for their children. Volunteers are needed to set-up the shop and help during shopping hours.

The Parish Nurse Ministry is made up of nurses in the parish. The ministry is associated with St. Joseph Oakland Hospital. The nurses provide regular blood pressure screenings, health-related lectures and workshops, and frequent health related articles in the weekly bulletin. The ministry organizes the annual Good Friday Red Cross Blood Drive, too. The Parish Nurses also participate in the Anointing of the Sick Mass which is held in the fall.
Volunteers are needed to help in various capacities for OCEF’s annual walk that is held in September of each year. Twenty-five percent of the CROP Walk money is returned to OCEF and used to purchase food for the Emergency Food Pantry located at St. Anne’s.
On the first Saturday morning of each month, a group of women meet to work together on quilts that a given to homeless shelters and other organizations. They also make prayer quilts for parishioners who are ill. The group welcomes students from grade 4 through high school to come and work with them.
People provide transportation to Mass for someone who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Twice a year there is a clothing drive held at St. Anne’s. The gently used clothes are picked up by the St. Vincent de Paul Society and given to the needy in nearby communities.
St. Joseph Mercy Hospice is seeking caring and compassionate people to join our Hospice Teams as Volunteers. Hospice Volunteers provide support to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Patient and family support may come in the form of companionship, comforting presence, caregiver relief, light household chores, or vigil volunteering.
