September 26 -- Friends, we hear from both Joshua’s ministry and our Lord Jesus’ ministry that God uses the “least likely” people to be an instrument of grace. From this, the “least likely” instruments of the Lord help to point us back to the TRUTH of the Lord. Consider, St. Juan Diego, just 2400 miles South of us, a simple farmer, who through many trials in the 1530’s in Mexico brings about through our Lady’s help, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Jesus will, with what the “world views” as the “least likely people” point us in a direction that is CLOSER to Him. Often children can do that for us. Consider a tender-hearted child, who encourages us to go to church or to pray for a sick loved one, etc. The Lord is using the “least likely” to show us, He is in our midst. Brothers and Sisters – Jesus is calling each of us! He is calling each of us into an encounter, a life-giving encounter and for many of us this encounter will begin with someone society might call the “least likely person.”
September 26, 2021 Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Friends, we hear from both Joshua’s ministry and our Lord Jesus’ ministry that God uses the “least likely” people to be an instrument of grace. September 19 -- 25th week in Ordinary Time Dear Friends, We hear a warning in scripture this week regarding “jealousy” and “selfish ambition” can be so very hurtful to others. With this, we hear Jesus’ revelation that He will be handed over and will day down His life. From this, we then hear the disciple’s squabble amongst themselves about “who was the greatest.” Jesus from this squabble asks the question, “where do these conflicts among you come from?” He provides them then the answer, its the passion of coveting and jealousy.
September 12 -- Dear Friends, Before breaking open a small reflection on Sacred Scripture for the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. I know many will sadly remember that Saturday, September 11, is the 20th anniversary of one of the darkest times in our nation’s history. I was working as a young college graduate in training, for General Motors, in Pre-Production Operations that day. I will never forget at about 8:10 am in a small conference at South Boulevard and Woodward, a veteran, who was now a GM Plant Superintendent, turning to me and saying, “we are under attack.” At this time, it would be good to remember in our prayers, to thank God for so many who have bravely served as first responders and for our armed forces who fought for our nation and sacrificed so much.
Sept. 23-26 -- A Discernment Weekend is a unique experience for men (ages 18-55) who feel a call to the priesthood. Spending four days living at the seminary provides them with a first-hand opportunity to see what it’s like from the inside and to discern with like-minded men. If you know any men who are interested and would like more information, please contact us. Those interested must have a meeting with Fr. Craig Giera, Director of Priestly Vocations, before they are allowed to register.
September 5 -- Getting to Know Fr. Craig I entered Seminary in 2010. Prior to entering Seminary, I worked for almost 13 years. My college background prior to entering Seminary was Business, Accounting and Finance. I was fortunate at the age of 18 to be hired by a small consulting company. I began as an office clerk, and in my time there I was able to learn a great deal. I was eventually working as the Assistant to the Human Resource Manager, then worked as Systems Analyst and when I left the company I worked in Systems Support and as a Recruiter.
