We begin Advent and we begin a “new liturgical year.” Year A places a special emphasis on St. Matthew’s Gospel. (When, I was taught Sacred Scripture, our professor would call St. Matthew, “meticulous Matthew.”) St. Matthew does provide a great level of detail in many of the Gospel accounts. As our journey opens into Advent, the church asks us to begin by remembering the great flood during the life of Noah. Jesus will too, cause a “great flood” a flood of grace and mercy throughout all of the earth. Fr. Peter Cameron, O.P., teaches us, “God will save us from corruption, not simply with a good and blameless man like Noah who walked with God, but with a good and blameless man who is God Himself – Jesus Christ.” In this beautiful season of Advent. For a few moments, it would be good to pause from the “hustle and bustle” of life’s demands and remember the “reason for the Season.” During Advent, let us pray: Lord Jesus, fill my heart with a longing to welcome you. Give me, I pray, the grace to live each day in your grace, ready to be with you for all eternity.
May the Lord be with you! Fr. Craig
