29th Sunday in Ordinary Time
This week, our Lord teaches us about the importance of persistent prayer. When we place ourselves in a “mode” of persistent prayer; we remind ourselves and those near us of our total dependence on God. And when we reach the “ah ha moment” where we see deep within ourselves our need for God, we are then driven by that dependence to call out to Him all the more. We are called to persist in prayer “in season” and “out of season” another way of saying it, is to pray persistently whether it is convenient or inconvenient.
St. Paul in Second Timothy charges us, “remain faithful to what you have learned and believed.” The only way this is possible is in and through persistent prayer.
Brothers and Sisters – Jesus invites us at every Mass to be persistent and unrelenting in our prayers. In the words of Dr. Mary Healy, “It is true …that as we persist in prayer the Lord will gradually begin to move in our hearts, changing our desires to become more aligned with His.” Dr. Healy continues… “Even when it seems nothing is happening in response to our prayer, the Lord may be accomplishing immense though unseen changes.”
Let us ask for the grace to be persistent in prayer.
