Fr. Craig’s Contemplations 8-21-2022--A special announcement St. Anne’s will begin to offer the Vigil Mass each Saturday evening at 4:00pm beginning in September. As everyone is aware, we are facing a shortage of Priests in the Archdiocese. Currently, all of the Parishes in our Family, offer the Vigil Mass at 5:00pm. In the event of an emergency, it would be impossible for a Priest within the family to assist at St. Anne’s or for the Priest of St. Anne’s to help at another Parish. And so, it was decided within the Family of Priests that St. Anne’s would offer the Vigil Mass each week at 4:00pm so that one of the parishes in our family offered Mass at a different time and second so that in the event of an emergency, a different Priest from within the family could assist us in the event of the absence of our Parish Priest. There will be no changes to our weekday Mass schedule and/or our Sunday Mass schedule. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
On a practical note, Fr. Adam MacDonald SVD is with us this weekend. Fr. Adam will celebrate the masses and speak about the work of the priests and Brothers of Divine Word Missionaries in 79 countries. Fr. Adam MacDonald grew up in Flint, Michigan. He served as a missionary in the Republic of the Philippines for a total of four years, where he worked as associate pastor at a large mission parish near Manila. In 2003, Fr. Adam returned to the U.S. to serve as Director of Studies for the Chicago Province of Divine Word Missionaries. He also has served as Rector of his Religious Community at Techny, IL. He currently serves in Vocation ministry for Divine Word Missionaries and is based at Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa. Nearly 6,000 active Divine Word Missionaries minister in the far corners of the world. They build hospitals to care for the sick and schools to educate the poor. They teach the hungry to farm, and they provide life’s necessities—water, food and shelter—in impoverished communities. These priests and Brothers help those neglected and forgotten by society to build a better future. They also foster vibrant Catholic communities of service and faith around the world. This mission appeal is part of the Missionary Cooperative Program of our Archdiocese of Detroit. Please be generous with your prayers and contribute to the second collection to help support the missionary work of the Divine Word Missionaries. May God be with you, Fr. Craig
