19th Sunday in Ordinary Time We hear in this weekend’s Gospel, that Jesus was preparing our ancestors in faith for Passover. (He does this for each of us as well.) Yet, we do not know the date or the hour, so we must make it part of our life to spend time “preparing.” To stop ourselves from the busyness of life and prepare, requires faith. (Also, it requires patience.) Indeed, our faith, helps us to “prepare.” Remember this beautiful definition of faith … “faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.”
And so, we are called to “not be afraid” and in faith, spend time “preparing” because the one who made the promise (our Lord Jesus) is trustworthy. The treasure that awaits us in heaven, is something far greater than we could ever imagine.
When we spend time “preparing” through times prayer and works of charity, we will deepen our personal knowledge of the truth of Jesus, and we will grow closer to God. Finally, thanks to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, spending time “preparing” will naturally help us to grow in love; Love for God and Love of neighbor. Jesus, our Lord is servant of us all and within the church, in our prayer, in Sacred Scripture and in the sacraments reveals to us the mystery of God’s love. Jesus’ offer of salvation and love is meant for all of us. However, to personally understand and apply this mystery we must spend time “preparing.” May the Lord be with you! Fr. Craig
