Dear Friends – we could be shocked in a way after reading the parable this weekend. You may ask, shocked in what way? As we read in the scriptures, the rich man, even in the afterlife, is still speaking to the poor man as a servant who is “supposed” to carry out tasks for him. The words, “Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue.” Scholars of Sacred Scripture remind us, the parable of the rich man and Lazarus must always be present in our memory; it must form our conscience. Part of our baptismal call is to be open to our brothers and sisters in need.
St. Anne’s for 65 years has taken this parable to heart! The current parishioners and past have worked tirelessly to not stand by idle. Thank God for the countless parishioners who in these 65 years have seen neighbors in need and through their generous support of Care & Share; the Food Pantry; the Knights of Columbus and Adopt a Family has made every effort to answer the call to support our brothers and sisters. This weekend, Bishop Don Hanchon will be the Presider of the 10:30 am Mass to celebrate this milestone of 65 years!
May God Bless you! Fr. Craig
