Each year at Pentecost, we reflect on the POWER of the Holy Spirit. Servant of God Luis Maria Martinez teaches us, “Christ’s Paschal Mystery was brought to completion. The Holy Spirit is present within us – we can live in freedom as adopted sons and daughters of the Lord. We are strengthened with unique gifts from the Holy Spirit.” St. Thomas Aquinas would say, “that the Holy Spirit interiorly perfects our spirit…” “the Gift of the love of God is the Holy Spirit.”
A simple way of reflecting on Pentecost... the Holy Spirit pours the charity of God into our hearts.
As many of you may already know, I will celebrate five years serving as a Parish Priest. {The date of my ordination is June 3, 2017.} Being a Priest is a great gift. It truly is a wonderful life, with countless blessings. A somber note, this year (2022) is the first time in approximately 80 years or so, we will NOT have a new priest ordained for the Archdiocese of Detroit. It’s a reminder, that each of us are indeed a “mini-vocation director” at the parish level. Each of us are called to invite, a man to prayerfully consider serving as a Priest.
A side note, I was ordained a Deacon by Bishop Reiss in 2016. Bishop Reiss shared with myself and my classmates, that when he was ordained a Priest; Cardinal John Dearden began with a sort of “apology” to each man being ordained saying, I will ordain you, but it is very possible you may not ever be Pastor because we have so many priests in the Archdiocese of Detroit. (Wow!) How things have changed in these past 55 years. Let us pray for more an increase in vocations to the Priesthood, the consecrated life and married life.
May the Holy Spirit in a new way awaken within each of us the awareness of the gift of the Love of God planted into our hearts.
Fr. Craig Marion
