April 11, 2021 -- This is a fairly incredible Gospel. It’s quite short, but it has within it an incredible amount of meaning for Christians everywhere.
March 28, 2021 -- Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, sometimes known as Passion Sunday and the beginning of what we call Holy Week. We celebrate the triumphant entry of Christ into the city that he loved. He did not lack friends and followers at this time, but how many stood by him when he hung on that cross. Let us look at this reflection…
March 14, 2021 -- We all know that the central theme of Scriptural religion is that God is a lover of people-all people and we hear this so often that it is very easy to let it go in one ear and out the other. However, the more I reflect on it, the more I come to the conclusion that it is a very difficult statement to comprehend.
March 7, 2020 -- I don’t think anyone of us could say that we haven’t gotten angry at least once in our lives, after all, we are human. In our Gospel today, we get another glimpse of the humanity of Christ.
February 14, 2021 -- Every time I read this Gospel it sends me down memory lane to my time in East Africa. One of my more memorable experiences among many was spending some time with lepers in a leper colony.
February 7, 2021 -- It has been a tradition for many years that on this first weekend of February we focus on healing. We have many stories of healing in the Old and New Testament including today's Gospel. We see also that God uses human instruments to bring about physical and spiritual healing.
January 24, 2021 -- I would l like to begin my talk today with a prayer. Oh God, if I have wronged others, give me the opportunity to apologize and if they have wronged me, give me the power to forgive. This could be one of the themes of today's scripture readings.
January 17, 2021 -- From time to time I like to talk about prayer and today's second reading is a good lead in to this topic. I like to think of prayer in the context of God’s call to Samuel. God called Samuel, in fact, he called him a few times, and eventually, Samuel answered, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”
January 10, 2021 -- I mentioned in a homily some years ago that the most baptisms I had done in one day was 82. It was in Africa and in the first year of my priesthood. The oldest was about 70 but most were under the age of 5. After about two minutes into the service, the crying started so much so, that I could hardly hear myself. Anyway, the Holy Spirit go me through as he has so often since then.
